Crimping sleeve ease

Just checking, how have you been?
I don't have a blog post with me, but I can't wait to show you the sleeve I made.
I used the crimping the method. I have seen the crimping method in text books but haven't seen them in blogs or videos. It has taken me quite an effort to get it right. But once I did wow the whole sleeve easing was a breeze.

UPDATE - Blogged with video here - How to ease sleeves crimping way - Easy, simple, Quick - No more frustration

No more 2 rows of gathering - what rubbish!  hahha .. Sorry
Crimping sleeve ease
Sorry about the photo. Just took it late night. I was so thrilled. And I have to show you what I'm making.
Do you use the crimping method?
Do you want a video of it? Pictures may not work here.
Have a good weekend!
Preethi.

  1. That's genius! You should definitely make a video and post it on social media. I'm sure that many sewists would benefit from a visual tutorial. As a knitter, I know all about the woes of easing the sleeve into the armsyce. I usually have a whole bunch of fabric that I "hide" in the underarm portion, ugh! But that's with a knitted sweater. With a garment that's custom made using fabric, you have to be that much more precise. Yeah, do the video!!

    1. Sure Preeti.. I was on such a long blogging break. Energised to be back now.
Knits is another game altogether, but I didnt realise that knit tops have ease on their sleeves. I always thought because they stretch you didnt have to ease the sleeves?

  3. Hi Preethi, how are you and how are the classes going on? I am very curious to see what you have created recently...
BTW, how did you gather the fabric? was it by pulling one of the threads by hand or by keeping thread tension uneven?

    1. Hi Sidhu, How are you? the classes were great.. amazing.. I need to put them into practice which I haven't really. Past couple of months I did no sewing at all. I was in India for a month and the next recovering from the trip.. I have totally made 2 dresses for me. They fit so well but then I have now lost so much weight they look baggy now. Both are princess seams, I don't know how to take in without ripping the whole thing apart.

    2. Sindhu, I put my fingers behind the foot and that creates even gathers with no puckers at all. After that when I pin them to the arm holes between the notches its done! no adjustments needed at all.

    3. Hi Preethi :) Thanks a lot for the kind words on my blog... I rushed here to see if you have posted anything new... Oh! So, you had come to India? I hope your trip to hometown was rejuvenating... Hmm, even I have not done sewing recently. We moved back to Bengaluru and was busy with setting home.

Wow! Two dresses! Hope you post them soon! Hmm... fitting a loose princess-line.... how about tucks in the centre front and back? A little fitting can be given by adjusting the side seam... I am not sure about it, but can have a thought, I think...

Ohk, so you stretched the fabric and hence the gathers are created? Just read that you are planning to share it here... Will look forward to that :)

Best wishes... TC! Keep smiling :)

  4. I've never heard of "crimping" in relation to sewing. I'd love to learn how to do this. I've bookmarked your web-site & will be checking back in the hopes of learning how to do this. Thanks! :)

    1. Hi Janet, Sure will post soon, how I did the crimping. Lot of trial and error. Had only read in a book but couldn't find any pictures or video. I'm sure I did take a video or pictures when I made the dress, I need to figure out where I downloaded them.
